Umbilical cord blood is blood that remains in the placenta and in the attached umbilical cord after childbirth. Cord blood is collected because it contains stem cells, which can be used to treat hematopoietic and genetic disorders. Cord blood is used the same way that hematopoietic stem cell transplantation is used to reconstitute bone marrow following radiation treatment for various blood cancers, and for various forms of anemia.[1][2] Its efficacy is similar as well.[1] Adverse effects are similar to hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, namely graft-versus-host disease and the risk of severe infection while the immune system is reconstituted.[1] There may be a higher risk of infection with cord blood compared with traditional HSCT, as cord blood is slower in generating immune cells.[1] Umbilical cord blood is the blood left over in the placenta and in the umbilical cord after the birth of the baby. The cord blood is composed of all the elements found in whole blood. It contains red blood cells, white blood cells, plasma, platelets and is also rich in hematopoietic stem cells. There are several methods for collecting cord blood. The method most commonly used in clinical practice is the "closed technique", which is similar to standard blood collection techniques. With this method, the technician cannulates the vein of the severed umbilical cord using a needle that is connected to a blood bag, and cord blood flows through the needle into the bag. On average, the closed technique enables collection of about 75 ml of cord blood.[3] Collected cord blood is cryopreserved and then stored in a cord blood bank for future transplantation. Cord blood collection is typically depleted of red blood cells before cryopreservation to ensure high rates of stem cell recovery.[4] After a baby is born and the umbilical cord is cut, some blood remains in the blood vessels of the placenta and the portion of the umbilical cord that remains attached to it. After birth, the baby no longer needs this extra blood. This blood is called placental blood or umbilical cord blood: "cord blood" for short. Cord blood contains all the normal elements of blood - red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets and plasma. But it is also rich in hematopoietic (blood-forming) stem cells, similar to those found in bone marrow. This is why cord blood can be used for transplantation as an alternative to bone marrow. Transplants of cord blood stem cells can cure over 80 diseases. Most of the diseases treated by stem cell transplants are rare among children. The exceptions are inherited blood disorders that are prevalent in certain populations, such as sickle cell disease and thalassemia. In recent years trials with cord blood have showed promise for treating more common childhood conditions, such as cerebral palsy, autism, and others. Parents who wish to donate cord blood are limited by whether there is a public bank that collects donations from the hospital or clinic where their baby will be born. Search our list of public banks in your country. Parents who wish to store cord blood and/or cord tissue for their family can find and compare private banks in your country. Family banks usually offer payment plans or in.surance policies to lower the cost of cord blood banking.

Parth Samthaan RUBBISHES the Rumours of having dated Gaurav Arora (Gauri)

Prince Narula, Paras Chhabra and Amaad Mintoo confirm that Parth is lying…

Parth Samthaan tops the list of the most controversial TV stars. Do we need to mention why?

The actor first came into the news for his offscreen rapport with his Kaisi Yeh Yaariyaan co-star Niti Taylor. They did not get along during the shoot. Later, he was mired in another controversy involving the &TV programming head Vikas Gupta. The actor accused him of molestation and non-payment of dues. The case did not go anywhere and is shut.

But what has caught everyone’s attention is the latest controversy involving Parth. This time around, the news is about Parth being involved with model Gauri Arora (earlier Gaurav Arora), who recently underwent a transformation.

In an exclusive interview with a leading daily, when asked about his opinion on love, Gauri stated that she was not over her past relationship and has developed trust issues. She also mentioned that he was physically involved with a popular TV actor, who made Gauri feel like a woman (before her sex change, when she was Gaurav Arora). But when Gauri learnt about this actor cheating on her with another man, she was left heartbroken. Gauri also went on to reveal how the actor comes to her gym and the fact that he has started distancing himself from her after her transformation.

After a little prodding, Gauri revealed hints to the leading daily, all of which directly point fingers at Parth. Clues like the guy-in-question was a popular actor of a big MTV show, in which he played a rock star. It was also mentioned that he left the show for a film and him being involved in a controversy with his producer boyfriend.

This shocked us! And in an attempt to get both sides of the story, we buzzed Parth for his take on the whole incident. And Parth opened up on this to India forums for the first time, “I don’t know why my name is being dragged in this. I don’t know who Gaurav is and have never met him before. He comes to the same gym. I also remember one of my friends in the gym speaking about his transformation and I even applauded him for having the guts to undergo such a transformation and that too, under the full public glare. It is said that we met in Goa during Splitsvilla’s shoot, however, the fact is that I have never been on the Splitsvilla shoot in Goa. It’s all a lie.”

It was also reported that Parth was in Goa to meet his rumored boyfriend. To confirm this piece, we called up Gauri’s co-contestants.

One such contestant, Amaad Mintoo has a different story to tell us all together. He says, “Parth was in Goa during the shoot of Splitsvilla. He came to spend time with Vikas. He was friendly with Gaurav and I don’t want to talk more about it. Please don’t drag me into the situation.”

We also spoke to Prince Narula, who told us ,”I do not wish to be embroiled in this controversy. Gauri is going through a really difficult time. I cannot comment on her relationship with Parth because I haven’t seen what has taken place behind closed doors, but Parth was at Splitsvilla’s shoot and was friendly with Gaurav. If he is saying he was not in Goa then he is not speaking the truth. He was in Goa for a couple of nights and was staying in the shoot premises with the producer of our show.”

We also contacted another contestant from Splitsvilla, Paras Chhabra, and with regards to the same, he said, “Yes, Parth came to Goa to meet Vikas. As we all know from a certain news article that they were dating and I confirm the same because I saw them kissing each other at the Splitsvilla venue. As of what I am aware, Parth was in the property for 3 days staying with Vikas.”

Well, the whole issue seems to be getting more and more complicated by the day. While Parth claims he has never met Gaurav and has never been to Goa during the shoot of the show, other contestants have a different version.

We did some more research apart from the contestants who contradicted Parth’s quote. The following picture was uploaded where Parth and Vikas are seen having a great time and it states they were both in Goa during Splitsvilla’s shoot.
