Umbilical cord blood is blood that remains in the placenta and in the attached umbilical cord after childbirth. Cord blood is collected because it contains stem cells, which can be used to treat hematopoietic and genetic disorders. Cord blood is used the same way that hematopoietic stem cell transplantation is used to reconstitute bone marrow following radiation treatment for various blood cancers, and for various forms of anemia.[1][2] Its efficacy is similar as well.[1] Adverse effects are similar to hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, namely graft-versus-host disease and the risk of severe infection while the immune system is reconstituted.[1] There may be a higher risk of infection with cord blood compared with traditional HSCT, as cord blood is slower in generating immune cells.[1] Umbilical cord blood is the blood left over in the placenta and in the umbilical cord after the birth of the baby. The cord blood is composed of all the elements found in whole blood. It contains red blood cells, white blood cells, plasma, platelets and is also rich in hematopoietic stem cells. There are several methods for collecting cord blood. The method most commonly used in clinical practice is the "closed technique", which is similar to standard blood collection techniques. With this method, the technician cannulates the vein of the severed umbilical cord using a needle that is connected to a blood bag, and cord blood flows through the needle into the bag. On average, the closed technique enables collection of about 75 ml of cord blood.[3] Collected cord blood is cryopreserved and then stored in a cord blood bank for future transplantation. Cord blood collection is typically depleted of red blood cells before cryopreservation to ensure high rates of stem cell recovery.[4] After a baby is born and the umbilical cord is cut, some blood remains in the blood vessels of the placenta and the portion of the umbilical cord that remains attached to it. After birth, the baby no longer needs this extra blood. This blood is called placental blood or umbilical cord blood: "cord blood" for short. Cord blood contains all the normal elements of blood - red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets and plasma. But it is also rich in hematopoietic (blood-forming) stem cells, similar to those found in bone marrow. This is why cord blood can be used for transplantation as an alternative to bone marrow. Transplants of cord blood stem cells can cure over 80 diseases. Most of the diseases treated by stem cell transplants are rare among children. The exceptions are inherited blood disorders that are prevalent in certain populations, such as sickle cell disease and thalassemia. In recent years trials with cord blood have showed promise for treating more common childhood conditions, such as cerebral palsy, autism, and others. Parents who wish to donate cord blood are limited by whether there is a public bank that collects donations from the hospital or clinic where their baby will be born. Search our list of public banks in your country. Parents who wish to store cord blood and/or cord tissue for their family can find and compare private banks in your country. Family banks usually offer payment plans or in.surance policies to lower the cost of cord blood banking.

‘Bahu Hamari Rajni_Kant’ to go OFF-AIR; Ridhima Pandit gets CANDID about the same!

Check out: The actress and her unplugged version about the show going off-air and her plans post it..

And it has been official for a while now that the Life Ok popular show, Bahu Hamari Rajni_Kant’ is all set to go off-air on the 10th February 2017. It has been hearthbreaking for several fans as the show which was launched back in 2016 was an absolute underdog, but went on to become one of the most loved shows of the year.

While, the whole ensemble cast of the show have been terrific with their performances, it has undoubtedly been none other than Ridhima Pandit aka Rajni herself who enthralled one and all with her performance.

From playing a robot to being a rickshawvala, to playing the quirky maid, Aishwariya and playing her own on-screen mother-in-law, Surili (Pallavi Pradhan), Ridhima has been versatile and aced every shades and form of the character she has portrayed on-screen.

But, with the show now calling it curtains, the fans and us wanted to know how Ridhima is feeling and what’s next in store for her.

In a conversation with the actress, she exclaimed, “Well, yes. Bahu Hamari Rajni_Kant is sadly going off-air soon and the whole cast is supposedly going to be shooting their last on 31st January 2017. I am really sad by this, but I can only understand why is it happening!”

She added, “The show was always supposed to run for a year and as it is going off-air on 10th February 2017, it pretty much fits, where it begun on 15th February 2016.”

She continued, “I would like to thank the amazing team of my writers especially, my producer, Sonali and Amir Jaffer, who have been the most amazing people to work for. And of course, a special call to Life Ok channel for being courageous to take up this concept and portray it the way it was.”

Now that the show is ending, we asked has she already been flooding with offers, to which she said, “Even I was so surprised and humbled by the fact that even before it was confirmed that the show is going off-air, I got a couple of offers. As an actor, you feel so good about this that people are willing to work with you and are looking forward to it.”

As she has been getting offers, we asked if she is already considering something, “It is too soon to think about something and finalise stuff. I am still shooting for the show and till then I would be looking at these offers and others when they come to me. However, one thing is clear that I have no intent of taking any break’ from work. I want to keep working and am open to offers coming my way. I would love to do a romance, drama or an action show next. Also, I have been asked about this time and again about doing reality shows. Hence, I would like to say that I do not see myself participating in a reality show, but would love to host one. Anchoring is something I love to do and doing it on TV is even better.”

As she mentioned that she is not taking a break, we asked whether she will be taking up any offer or show that comes to her at the soonest, to which she said, “I believe in the saying that Hit the hammer, while the Iron is Hot.’ I love working constantly and I intend to continue doing the same. ‘Bahu Hamari Rajni_Kant’ will remain extremely special to me all my life, but I know that I have to look ahead and hence would love to be back on the screen at the soonest.”

Several fandom and us too had a question that, what if, the makers come up with an idea and concept for a sequel or a ‘Bahu Hamari Rajni_Kant Season 2’. Would she be open to do it? Ridhima said, This is something that totally depends on the writers and the makers as to whether they can come up with something interesting. If the script and the character is interesting, then I would surely consider it.”
